December 2, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 3974 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3265 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2650 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Friday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. MAGAL SEC SYS LTD (NASDAQ:MAGS), EXELIXIS INC (NASDAQ:EXEL), HEALTH MGMT ASSOCIATES INC-A (NYSE:HMA), RESEARCH IN MOTION (NASDAQ:RIMM), BIG LOTS INC (NYSE:BIG), CANADIAN SOLAR INC (NASDAQ:CSIQ). Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction MAGS $-0.520 -10.24% 159,647 44.89% 185,791 52.24% -26,144 -503 EXEL $-0.330 -7.26% 981,768 46.78% 1,116,871 53.22% -135,103 -4,094 HMA $-0.640 -7.89% 2,872,153 28.08% 3,075,366 30.06% -203,213 -3,175 RIMM $-1.790 -9.63% 28,937,121 48.29% 30,733,973 51.29% -1,796,852 -10,038 BIG $-3.460 -8.71% 1,716,422 27.94% 1,865,732 30.37% -149,310 -432 CSIQ $-0.270 -8.65% 544,474 45.96% 640,320 54.04% -95,846 -3,550Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows MAGS with a dollar loss Friday of $-0.52000 and a Friction Factor of -503 shares. That means that it only took 503 more shares of selling than buying to move MAGS lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
