October 24, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Monday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Monday there were 3699 companies with "abnormal" market making, 4864 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1700 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. MGIC INVESTMENT CORP (NYSE:MTG), KRAFT FOODS INC-CLASS A (NYSE:KFT), PROCTER & GAMBLE CO/THE (NYSE:PG), FIRST NIAGARA FINANCIAL GRP (NASDAQ:FNFG), VERIZON COMMUNICATIONS INC (NYSE:VZ), PEPSICO INC (NYSE:PEP). Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction MTG $-0.130 -5.66% 4,610,961 32.84% 3,494,290 24.88% 1,116,671 Abnormal KFT $-0.040 -0.11% 2,324,992 39.60% 1,530,376 26.07% 794,616 Abnormal PG $-0.980 -1.48% 3,506,059 36.38% 2,776,762 28.81% 729,297 Abnormal FNFG $-0.270 -3.03% 9,383,778 59.09% 6,216,637 39.15% 3,167,141 Abnormal VZ $-0.610 -1.63% 5,006,639 34.42% 4,376,779 30.09% 629,860 Abnormal PEP $-0.260 -0.42% 2,660,428 35.64% 1,991,100 26.67% 669,328 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Monday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows MTG with 1,116,671 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.13000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
