October 11, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 4073 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3406 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2453 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. BANCO BRADESCO-ADR (NYSE:BBD), LINCOLN NATIONAL CORP (NYSE:LNC), BANK OF NEW YORK MELLON CORP. (NYSE:BK), INTEL CORP (NASDAQ:INTC), HARRIS INTERACTIVE INC (NASDAQ:HPOL), BIGBAND NETWORKS INC (NASDAQ:BBND). Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction BBD $0.160 1.02% 2,327,734 21.03% 4,085,826 36.92% -1,758,092 Abnormal LNC $0.200 1.23% 1,555,654 20.09% 3,658,442 47.24% -2,102,788 Abnormal BK $0.090 0.49% 2,466,891 22.99% 4,102,678 38.23% -1,635,787 Abnormal INTC $0.110 0.48% 24,298,352 48.10% 26,059,604 51.59% -1,761,252 Abnormal HPOL $0.190 61.41% 155,825 9.49% 1,485,353 90.51% -1,329,528 Abnormal BBND $0.950 74.80% 8,669,517 25.43% 23,920,527 70.17% -15,251,010 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Tuesday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows BBD with 1,758,092 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.16000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
