September 13, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 4305 companies with "abnormal" market making, 4043 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2222 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Tuesday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. INTERMUNE, INC. (NASDAQ:ITMN), GMX RESOURCES INC (NYSE:GMXR), SPHERIX INC (NASDAQ:SPEX), GEOKINETICS INC (AMEX:GOK), AUTOCHINA INTERNATIONAL LTD (NASDAQ:AUTC), (NASDAQ:RPXC). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction ITMN $-2.670 -9.94% 1,948,625 48.15% 2,080,288 51.40% -131,663 -493 GMXR $-0.210 -8.94% 768,339 32.20% 978,891 41.02% -210,552 -10,026 SPEX $-0.220 -10.58% 71,503 46.54% 82,148 53.46% -10,645 -484 GOK $-0.910 -23.27% 293,007 32.60% 328,738 36.57% -35,731 -393 AUTC $-9.300 -39.71% 32,047 44.70% 36,850 51.40% -4,803 -5 RPXC $-1.670 -7.82% 151,402 44.50% 187,096 55.00% -35,694 -214Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows ITMN with a dollar loss Tuesday of $-2.67000 and a Friction Factor of -493 shares. That means that it only took 493 more shares of selling than buying to move ITMN lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
