September 12, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Monday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Monday there were 4647 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2213 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3617 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Monday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. SPHERIX INC (NASDAQ:SPEX), VELTI PLC (NASDAQ:VELT), CTC MEDIA, INC. (NASDAQ:CTCM), GIANT INTERACTIVE GROUP-ADR (NYSE:GA), SNAP INTERACTIVE INC (OTCBB:STVI), (NYSE:SQNS). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     SPEX $-0.590 -22.26% 155,997 42.35% 189,251 51.37% -33,254 -564
     VELT $-0.930 -12.02% 1,247,420 47.59% 1,360,623 51.91% -113,203 -1,217
     CTCM $-1.730 -12.68% 674,183 45.98% 785,346 53.56% -111,163 -643
     GA $-3.190 -40.90% 805,820 27.36% 895,129 30.40% -89,309 -280
     STVI $-0.150 -14.71% 33,190 23.97% 69,602 50.26% -36,412 -2,427
     SQNS $-0.720 -12.98% 179,870 32.40% 206,803 37.25% -26,933 -374
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows SPEX with a dollar loss Monday of $-0.59000 and a Friction Factor of -564 shares. That means that it only took 564 more shares of selling than buying to move SPEX lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
