August 24, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Wednesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Wednesday there were 940 companies with "abnormal" market making, 888 companies with positive Friction Factors and 613 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. COMCAST CORP-CLASS A (NASDAQ:CMCSA), CEMEX SAB-SPONS ADR PART CER (NYSE:CX), CENTERPOINT ENERGY INC (NYSE:CNP), CHEVRON CORP (NYSE:CVX), BRISTOL-MYERS SQUIBB CO (NYSE:BMY), COVIDIEN PLC (NYSE:COV). Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction CMCSA $0.510 2.54% 11,296,889 45.86% 15,486,776 62.87% -4,189,887 Abnormal CX $0.030 0.60% 2,087,560 26.29% 2,791,094 35.15% -703,534 Abnormal CNP $0.360 1.87% 1,827,072 24.74% 2,779,171 37.63% -952,099 Abnormal CVX $0.260 0.27% 1,462,960 19.14% 2,124,702 27.80% -661,742 Abnormal BMY $0.040 0.14% 3,503,632 27.13% 4,239,680 32.83% -736,048 Abnormal COV $0.120 0.24% 1,165,948 22.52% 1,675,676 32.36% -509,728 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Wednesday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows CMCSA with 4,189,887 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.51000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
