August 15, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Monday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Monday there were 3963 companies with "abnormal" market making, 5230 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1731 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. WUXI PHARMATECH INC-ADR (NYSE:WX), MONSANTO CO (NYSE:MON), LOWE'S COS INC (NYSE:LOW), NORDSTROM INC (NYSE:JWN), INTERDIGITAL INC (NASDAQ:IDCC), SYSCO CORP (NYSE:SYY). Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction WX $-0.990 -6.95% 1,487,028 60.19% 682,362 27.62% 804,666 Abnormal MON $-0.180 -0.25% 1,086,872 30.41% 651,954 18.24% 434,918 Abnormal LOW $-0.120 -0.59% 12,457,543 36.51% 9,988,512 29.28% 2,469,031 Abnormal JWN $-0.080 -0.19% 1,636,979 35.37% 956,901 20.67% 680,078 Abnormal IDCC $-10.820 -14.29% 7,469,755 50.81% 6,943,758 47.23% 525,997 Abnormal SYY $-1.300 -4.44% 3,883,367 31.95% 3,262,344 26.84% 621,023 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Monday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows WX with 804,666 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.99000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
