August 5, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 4480 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1886 companies with positive Friction Factors and 5065 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Friday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. MIPS TECHNOLOGIES INC (NASDAQ:MIPS), BROCADE COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS, INC. (NASDAQ:BRCD), IMPERIAL SUGAR CO (NASDAQ:IPSU), NOVATEL WIRELESS INC (NASDAQ:NVTL), KINGTONE WIRELESSINFO SO-ADR (NASDAQ:KONE), CORELOGIC INC (NYSE:CLGX). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     MIPS $-1.980 -32.47% 3,243,248 47.89% 3,463,232 51.14% -219,984 -1,111
     BRCD $-1.370 -28.00% 37,802,236 42.21% 40,324,410 45.02% -2,522,174 -18,410
     IPSU $-13.750 -59.30% 1,520,277 47.59% 1,615,584 50.57% -95,307 -69
     NVTL $-1.320 -28.40% 1,235,731 49.00% 1,238,305 49.10% -2,574 -20
     KONE $-0.400 -26.67% 26,830 31.40% 40,629 47.54% -13,799 -345
     CLGX $-4.430 -30.87% 2,080,223 26.59% 2,811,599 35.94% -731,376 -1,651
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows MIPS with a dollar loss Friday of $-1.98000 and a Friction Factor of -1,111 shares. That means that it only took 1,111 more shares of selling than buying to move MIPS lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
