August 4, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 3498 companies with "abnormal" market making, 952 companies with positive Friction Factors and 7088 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Thursday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. MAD CATZ INTERACTIVE INC (AMEX:MCZ), GENTIVA HEALTH SERVICES (NASDAQ:GTIV), FOSTER (NASDAQ:FSTR), ENTROPIC COMMUNICATIONS INC (NASDAQ:ENTR), NETSPEND HOLDINGS INC (NASDAQ:NTSP), COMPLETE GENOMICS INC (NASDAQ:GNOM). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     MCZ $-0.510 -41.47% 384,827 30.50% 513,457 40.70% -128,630 -2,522
     GTIV $-4.510 -33.76% 1,749,362 42.21% 2,236,987 53.98% -487,625 -1,081
     FSTR $-12.230 -35.93% 57,510 35.28% 101,248 62.11% -43,738 -36
     ENTR $-2.550 -38.17% 10,470,509 47.88% 11,315,331 51.74% -844,822 -3,313
     NTSP $-2.960 -38.59% 1,430,883 38.63% 2,229,151 60.19% -798,268 -2,697
     GNOM $-3.540 -31.47% 775,860 48.59% 809,275 50.68% -33,415 -94
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows MCZ with a dollar loss Thursday of $-0.51000 and a Friction Factor of -2,522 shares. That means that it only took 2,522 more shares of selling than buying to move MCZ lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
