Market Maker Surveillance Report. NLY, SIRI, HPQ, MSFT, ODP, HK, Bullishly Biased Price Friction For Tuesday, July 26th 2011
July 26, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 4108 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2577 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3993 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. ANNALY CAPITAL MANAGEMENT IN (NYSE:NLY), SIRIUS XM RADIO INC (NASDAQ:SIRI), HEWLETT-PACKARD CO (NYSE:HPQ), MICROSOFT CORP (NASDAQ:MSFT), OFFICE DEPOT INC (NYSE:ODP), PETROHAWK ENERGY CORP (NYSE:HK). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction NLY $0.040 0.23% 7,685,824 33.61% 9,042,643 39.54% -1,356,819 Abnormal SIRI $0.010 0.23% 15,505,931 46.98% 17,501,235 53.02% -1,995,304 Abnormal HPQ $0.460 1.23% 3,269,421 22.74% 4,875,136 33.91% -1,605,715 Abnormal MSFT $0.100 0.37% 36,604,269 46.13% 42,497,061 53.56% -5,892,792 Abnormal ODP $0.360 10.23% 5,309,665 21.02% 6,785,181 26.86% -1,475,516 Abnormal HK $0.020 0.05% 4,547,793 24.21% 9,716,423 51.72% -5,168,630 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Tuesday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows NLY with 1,356,819 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.04000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
