Market Maker Surveillance Report. PFE, GE, PWAV, SFN, CVS, ESRX, Bullishly Biased Price Friction For Thursday, July 21st 2011
July 21, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 4144 companies with "abnormal" market making, 4452 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2230 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. PFIZER INC (NYSE:PFE), GENERAL ELECTRIC CO (NYSE:GE), POWERWAVE TECHNOLOGIES INC (NASDAQ:PWAV), SFN GROUP INC (NYSE:SFN), CVS CAREMARK CORP (NYSE:CVS), EXPRESS SCRIPTS INC (NASDAQ:ESRX). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction PFE $0.200 1.01% 10,532,529 23.81% 12,851,105 29.05% -2,318,576 Abnormal GE $0.450 2.39% 16,652,856 25.30% 20,019,373 30.42% -3,366,517 Abnormal PWAV $0.110 4.93% 2,526,149 15.84% 13,422,346 84.16% -10,896,197 Abnormal SFN $4.710 51.08% 8,423,180 32.54% 11,150,499 43.07% -2,727,319 Abnormal CVS $1.030 2.79% 6,728,206 26.01% 9,320,672 36.03% -2,592,466 Abnormal ESRX $2.840 5.41% 33,922,490 43.69% 37,793,438 48.68% -3,870,948 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Thursday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows PFE with 2,318,576 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.20000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
