June 10, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 4052 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1821 companies with positive Friction Factors and 5328 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Friday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. LIFE PARTNERS HOLDINGS INC (NASDAQ:LPHI), RENTRAK CORP (NASDAQ:RENT), SPHERIX INC (NASDAQ:SPEX), HOKU CORP (NASDAQ:HOKU), (:ISCOE), (:DIETD). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction LPHI $-0.520 -13.79% 145,943 42.35% 198,628 57.65% -52,685 -1,013 RENT $-2.790 -12.42% 89,025 44.19% 110,357 54.77% -21,332 -76 SPEX $-0.300 -8.77% 25,429 35.35% 46,505 64.65% -21,076 -703 HOKU $-0.200 -10.15% 66,048 40.91% 95,400 59.09% -29,352 -1,468 ISCOE $-0.100 -10.00% 143,376 36.62% 189,539 48.41% -46,163 -4,616 DIETD $-0.150 -10.07% 44,569 20.77% 169,939 79.19% -125,370 -8,358Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows LPHI with a dollar loss Friday of $-0.52000 and a Friction Factor of -1,013 shares. That means that it only took 1,013 more shares of selling than buying to move LPHI lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
