Market Maker Surveillance Report. XLF, EEM, EBAY, BAC, EWJ, S, Bullishly Biased Price Friction For Thursday, June 2nd 2011
June 2, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 2777 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2094 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2570 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. FINANCIAL SELECT SECTOR SPDR (NYSE:XLF), ISHARES MSCI EMERGING MKT IN (NYSE:EEM), EBAY INC (NASDAQ:EBAY), BANK OF AMERICA CORP (NYSE:BAC), ISHARES MSCI JAPAN INDEX FD (NYSE:EWJ), SPRINT NEXTEL CORP (NYSE:S). Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction XLF $0.020 0.16% 24,667,095 17.47% 38,873,749 27.54% -14,206,654 Abnormal EEM $0.420 0.88% 7,787,735 18.55% 13,704,212 32.64% -5,916,477 Abnormal EBAY $0.640 2.11% 6,366,002 40.43% 9,581,891 60.85% -3,215,889 Abnormal BAC $0.060 0.53% 53,081,612 27.21% 64,863,069 33.25% -11,781,457 Abnormal EWJ $0.020 0.20% 4,989,108 27.90% 7,399,136 41.38% -2,410,028 Abnormal S $0.090 1.54% 22,860,123 28.30% 25,310,854 31.33% -2,450,731 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Thursday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows XLF with 14,206,654 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.02000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
