Market Maker Surveillance Report. UTSI, WEN, CMCSK, DFS, INTC, HTZ, Bullishly Biased Price Friction For Tuesday, May 31st 2011
May 31, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 2756 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3395 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1635 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. UTSTARCOM INC (NASDAQ:UTSI), WENDY'S/ARBY'S GROUP INC-A (NYSE:WEN), COMCAST CORP-SPECIAL CL A (NASDAQ:CMCSK), DISCOVER FINANCIAL SERVICES (NYSE:DFS), INTEL CORP (NASDAQ:INTC), HERTZ GLOBAL HOLDINGS INC (NYSE:HTZ). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction UTSI $0.010 0.55% 810,285 7.31% 10,265,927 92.68% -9,455,642 Abnormal WEN $0.080 1.62% 1,230,066 13.41% 7,041,772 76.80% -5,811,706 Abnormal CMCSK $0.120 0.51% 3,722,919 28.96% 9,111,589 70.87% -5,388,670 Abnormal DFS $0.040 0.17% 2,308,200 15.10% 10,248,640 67.05% -7,940,440 Abnormal INTC $0.320 1.44% 26,727,396 43.12% 34,364,501 55.44% -7,637,105 Abnormal HTZ $0.070 0.44% 1,634,074 15.05% 7,041,033 64.84% -5,406,959 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Tuesday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows UTSI with 9,455,642 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.01000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
