Market Maker Surveillance Report. XLF, LVLT, MRVL, CSCO, AATI, XOP, Bullishly Biased Price Friction For Friday, May 27th 2011
May 27, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 2546 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3140 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1621 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. FINANCIAL SELECT SECTOR SPDR (NYSE:XLF), LEVEL 3 COMMUNICATIONS INC (NASDAQ:LVLT), MARVELL TECHNOLOGY GROUP LTD (NASDAQ:MRVL), CISCO SYSTEMS INC (NASDAQ:CSCO), ADVANCED ANALOGIC TECHNOLOGI (NASDAQ:AATI), SPDR S&P OIL & GAS EXP & PR (NYSE:XOP). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction XLF $0.140 0.90% 10,897,260 21.65% 16,263,399 32.31% -5,366,139 Abnormal LVLT $0.130 5.86% 40,346,563 44.31% 50,313,284 55.25% -9,966,721 Abnormal MRVL $1.610 11.06% 27,663,462 42.98% 34,807,141 54.08% -7,143,679 Abnormal CSCO $0.230 1.42% 23,438,778 47.32% 27,011,800 54.53% -3,573,022 Abnormal AATI $2.140 54.87% 16,683,490 42.26% 22,511,204 57.02% -5,827,714 Abnormal XOP $0.370 0.62% 1,055,341 14.39% 3,427,656 46.73% -2,372,315 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Friday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows XLF with 5,366,139 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.14000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
