Market Maker Surveillance Report. S, UL, VLCO, XLE, SPY, GE, Bullishly Biased Price Friction For Wednesday, May 25th 2011
May 25, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Wednesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Wednesday there were 2702 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3090 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1984 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. SPRINT NEXTEL CORP (NYSE:S), UNILEVER PLC-SPONSORED ADR (NYSE:UL), VALCOM INC (OTC:VLCO), ENERGY SELECT SECTOR SPDR (NYSE:XLE), SPDR S&P 500 ETF TRUST (NYSE:SPY), GENERAL ELECTRIC CO (NYSE:GE). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction S $0.030 0.51% 22,524,380 26.65% 25,331,591 29.97% -2,807,211 Abnormal UL $0.130 0.41% 533,188 9.96% 3,983,932 74.42% -3,450,744 Abnormal VLCO $0.021 50.99% 23,677,671 45.92% 26,108,344 50.63% -2,430,673 Abnormal XLE $1.190 1.60% 5,070,082 19.46% 6,871,987 26.38% -1,801,905 Abnormal SPY $0.270 0.20% 32,604,146 22.89% 38,349,483 26.92% -5,745,337 Abnormal GE $0.120 0.63% 11,237,923 26.68% 14,986,844 35.58% -3,748,921 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Wednesday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows S with 2,807,211 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.03000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
