May 25, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Wednesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Wednesday there were 2702 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3090 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1984 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. CISCO SYSTEMS INC (NASDAQ:CSCO), MEDTRONIC INC (NYSE:MDT), INTERNATIONAL COAL GROUP INC (NYSE:ICO), ISHARES MSCI BRAZIL (NYSE:EWZ), CITIGROUP INC (NYSE:C), SOUTHWEST AIRLINES CO (NYSE:LUV). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     CSCO $-0.070 -0.43% 30,408,702 50.62% 29,396,868 48.94% 1,011,834 Abnormal
     MDT $-0.680 -1.66% 3,331,650 37.24% 2,299,869 25.71% 1,031,781 Abnormal
     ICO $-0.010 -0.07% 2,443,243 49.56% 1,564,886 31.74% 878,357 Abnormal
     EWZ $-0.010 -0.01% 5,113,495 44.42% 2,108,060 18.31% 3,005,435 Abnormal
     C $-0.190 -0.47% 12,150,315 35.02% 9,963,594 28.72% 2,186,721 Abnormal
     LUV $-0.130 -1.09% 3,422,185 37.93% 2,448,420 27.14% 973,765 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Wednesday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows CSCO with 1,011,834 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.07000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
