May 24, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 2627 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2268 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2820 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Tuesday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. LIFE PARTNERS HOLDINGS INC (NASDAQ:LPHI), CHINA GREEN AGRICULTURE INC (NYSE:CGA), TRANSPORTADOR GAS SUR-SP ADR (NYSE:TGS), CHARMING SHOPPES (NASDAQ:CHRS), SOMAXON PHARMACEUTICALS INC (NASDAQ:SOMX), CHINA-BIOTICS INC (NASDAQ:CHBT). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction LPHI $-0.810 -17.34% 214,495 41.68% 293,261 56.99% -78,766 -972 CGA $-0.910 -14.02% 126,036 33.05% 133,851 35.10% -7,815 -86 TGS $-1.620 -30.39% 38,367 20.30% 61,247 32.40% -22,880 -141 CHRS $-0.690 -16.95% 531,191 48.59% 560,533 51.28% -29,342 -425 SOMX $-0.340 -13.03% 733,444 45.23% 886,863 54.69% -153,419 -4,512 CHBT $-1.480 -16.02% 743,805 45.78% 861,810 53.04% -118,005 -797Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows LPHI with a dollar loss Tuesday of $-0.81000 and a Friction Factor of -972 shares. That means that it only took 972 more shares of selling than buying to move LPHI lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
