May 20, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 2588 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1670 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3274 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Friday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. KIRKLAND'S INC (NASDAQ:KIRK), TALBOTS INC (NYSE:TLB), PMI GROUP INC/THE (NYSE:PMI), UNIVERSAL STAINLESS & ALLOY (NASDAQ:USAP), SINOHUB INC (AMEX:SIHI), GULF RESOURCES INC (NASDAQ:GFRE). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction KIRK $-1.450 -9.70% 342,932 42.92% 453,385 56.74% -110,453 -762 TLB $-0.500 -9.96% 2,397,171 28.73% 2,751,744 32.97% -354,573 -7,091 PMI $-0.180 -11.46% 2,331,504 29.38% 3,461,737 43.63% -1,130,233 -62,791 USAP $-3.670 -9.81% 66,561 41.05% 85,591 52.78% -19,030 -52 SIHI $-0.170 -12.88% 85,634 21.25% 130,604 32.40% -44,970 -2,645 GFRE $-0.480 -12.44% 872,642 45.72% 1,019,607 53.42% -146,965 -3,062Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows KIRK with a dollar loss Friday of $-1.45000 and a Friction Factor of -762 shares. That means that it only took 762 more shares of selling than buying to move KIRK lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
