May 19, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 2754 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2552 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2215 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. ISHARES FTSE CHINA 25 INDEX (NYSE:FXI), LEVEL 3 COMMUNICATIONS INC (NASDAQ:LVLT), VANGUARD MSCI EMERGING MARKE (NYSE:VWO), PFIZER INC (NYSE:PFE), WELLS FARGO & CO (NYSE:WFC), STAPLES INC (NASDAQ:SPLS). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     FXI $-0.090 -0.20% 3,279,719 31.13% 1,594,346 15.13% 1,685,373 Abnormal
     LVLT $-0.040 -2.13% 15,233,169 58.88% 10,636,602 41.12% 4,596,567 Abnormal
     VWO $-0.230 -0.48% 5,441,650 35.60% 4,231,195 27.68% 1,210,455 Abnormal
     PFE $-0.160 -0.76% 14,497,060 32.69% 12,276,704 27.69% 2,220,356 Abnormal
     WFC $-0.260 -0.89% 7,939,430 31.87% 6,205,158 24.91% 1,734,272 Abnormal
     SPLS $-0.020 -0.12% 12,780,834 57.75% 9,142,566 41.31% 3,638,268 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Thursday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows FXI with 1,685,373 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.09000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
