May 17, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 2783 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1854 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2958 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. ISHARES MSCI BRAZIL (NYSE:EWZ), PFIZER INC (NYSE:PFE), JPMORGAN CHASE & CO (NYSE:JPM), MARSHALL & ILSLEY CORP (NYSE:MI), VALE SA-SP ADR (NYSE:VALE), ISHARES SILVER TRUST (NYSE:SLV). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     EWZ $0.610 0.86% 3,714,118 18.07% 5,511,262 26.82% -1,797,144 Abnormal
     PFE $0.150 0.71% 18,396,703 31.72% 19,250,096 33.19% -853,393 Abnormal
     JPM $0.930 2.17% 8,391,036 23.18% 12,324,353 34.05% -3,933,317 Abnormal
     MI $0.080 0.99% 785,187 20.04% 1,770,532 45.19% -985,345 Abnormal
     VALE $0.460 1.56% 5,159,628 24.87% 5,964,326 28.75% -804,698 Abnormal
     SLV $0.180 0.55% 20,516,038 26.18% 21,463,225 27.38% -947,187 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Tuesday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows EWZ with 1,797,144 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.61000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
