May 11, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Wednesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Wednesday there were 2370 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1295 companies with positive Friction Factors and 4040 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage gain per share Wednesday and low price friction (bullish). This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices rose faster with less Friction. DISCOVERY LABORATORIES INC (NASDAQ:DSCO), SUNLINK HEALTH SYSTEMS INC (AMEX:SSY), OXIGENE INC (NASDAQ:OXGN), BIDZ.COM INC (NASDAQ:BIDZ), TOP IMAGE SYSTEMS LTD (NASDAQ:TISA), QUANTUM FUEL SYSTEMS TECHNOL (NASDAQ:QTWW). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction DSCO $0.320 16.93% 2,522,714 56.92% 1,909,289 43.08% 613,425 19,170 SSY $0.410 18.30% 44,688 36.22% 41,164 33.36% 3,524 86 OXGN $0.920 23.12% 8,024,551 50.12% 7,964,408 49.75% 60,143 654 BIDZ $0.230 18.11% 137,099 63.02% 85,343 39.23% 51,756 2,250 TISA $0.860 64.17% 2,301,435 51.42% 2,173,279 48.56% 128,156 1,490 QTWW $0.860 24.36% 1,470,934 51.17% 1,389,345 48.33% 81,589 949Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net buy volumes (buy volume, sell volume) and low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows DSCO with a dollar gain Wednesday of $0.32000 and a Friction Factor of 19,170 shares. That means that it only took 19,170 more shares of buying than selling to move DSCO higher by one penny. The Market Makers are currently allowing the stock to rise quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and positive market direction can drive prices higher much faster than normal.
