May 4, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Wednesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Wednesday there were 2380 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1412 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3492 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. VARIAN SEMICONDUCTOR EQUIP (NASDAQ:VSEA), ISTA PHARMACEUTICALS INC (NASDAQ:ISTA), AMERICAN CAPITAL LTD (NASDAQ:ACAS), MICROSOFT CORP (NASDAQ:MSFT), INTERNATIONAL COAL GROUP INC (NYSE:ICO), IPATH S&P 500 VIX S/T FU ETN (NYSE:VXX). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction VSEA $20.740 51.15% 15,852,419 46.79% 17,949,396 52.98% -2,096,977 Abnormal ISTA $0.210 2.09% 1,281,024 32.59% 2,648,406 67.37% -1,367,382 Abnormal ACAS $0.200 1.93% 5,350,231 43.77% 6,870,801 56.21% -1,520,570 Abnormal MSFT $0.220 0.85% 35,431,030 48.40% 39,587,529 54.07% -4,156,499 Abnormal ICO $0.020 0.14% 6,799,281 24.30% 15,568,869 55.64% -8,769,588 Abnormal VXX $0.370 1.52% 7,326,046 25.16% 8,812,397 30.26% -1,486,351 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Wednesday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows VSEA with 2,096,977 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $20.74000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
