May 3, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 2523 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1504 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3642 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Tuesday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. LIVEPERSON INC (NASDAQ:LPSN), STEREOTAXIS INC (NASDAQ:STXS), QUEST SOFTWARE INC (NASDAQ:QSFT), INTERPHASE CORP (NASDAQ:INPH), LOCAL.COM CORP (NASDAQ:LOCM), YRC WORLDWIDE INC (NASDAQ:YRCW). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction LPSN $-1.830 -14.05% 2,634,837 49.16% 2,679,407 49.99% -44,570 -244 STXS $-0.630 -15.71% 481,588 43.18% 634,584 56.90% -152,996 -2,429 QSFT $-5.050 -19.77% 432,312 42.06% 467,483 45.48% -35,171 -70 INPH $-0.870 -16.32% 218,435 44.55% 268,008 54.66% -49,573 -570 LOCM $-0.790 -17.71% 1,552,431 44.66% 1,914,209 55.07% -361,778 -4,579 YRCW $-0.220 -14.57% 2,353,074 46.30% 2,709,935 53.32% -356,861 -16,221Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows LPSN with a dollar loss Tuesday of $-1.83000 and a Friction Factor of -244 shares. That means that it only took 244 more shares of selling than buying to move LPSN lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
