May 2, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Monday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Monday there were 2659 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1979 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3076 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. SPDR S&P 500 ETF TRUST (NYSE:SPY), METLIFE INC (NYSE:MET), EXXON MOBIL CORP (NYSE:XOM), SOUTHWEST AIRLINES CO (NYSE:LUV), JPMORGAN CHASE & CO (NYSE:JPM), RESEARCH IN MOTION (NASDAQ:RIMM). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     SPY $-0.250 -0.18% 32,753,467 26.25% 31,257,347 25.05% 1,496,120 Abnormal
     MET $-0.250 -0.54% 3,077,874 42.56% 1,671,307 23.11% 1,406,567 Abnormal
     XOM $-0.730 -0.83% 5,743,331 31.06% 4,350,795 23.53% 1,392,536 Abnormal
     LUV $-0.180 -1.53% 10,466,670 47.74% 6,651,721 30.34% 3,814,949 Abnormal
     JPM $-0.390 -0.86% 9,062,665 36.15% 7,618,723 30.39% 1,443,942 Abnormal
     RIMM $-0.540 -1.11% 9,568,891 55.32% 7,661,024 44.29% 1,907,867 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Monday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows SPY with 1,496,120 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.25000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
