April 25, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Monday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Monday there were 2681 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2278 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2924 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. HEALTH CARE SELECT SECTOR (NYSE:XLV), GILEAD SCIENCES INC (NASDAQ:GILD), TENET HEALTHCARE CORP (NYSE:THC), SOUTHWEST AIRLINES CO (NYSE:LUV), ISHARES GOLD TRUST (AMEX:IAU), VALE SA-SP ADR (NYSE:VALE). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     XLV $0.020 0.05% 1,088,724 13.48% 4,675,657 57.88% -3,586,933 Abnormal
     GILD $0.140 0.36% 5,240,396 40.39% 7,453,358 57.44% -2,212,962 Abnormal
     THC $0.110 1.62% 3,781,219 23.43% 5,201,380 32.24% -1,420,161 Abnormal
     LUV $0.200 1.77% 3,639,550 26.63% 4,921,454 36.02% -1,281,904 Abnormal
     IAU $0.020 0.14% 2,363,750 25.05% 5,001,079 52.99% -2,637,329 Abnormal
     VALE $0.030 0.09% 3,304,522 24.68% 5,018,678 37.49% -1,714,156 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Monday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows XLV with 3,586,933 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.02000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
