Market Maker Surveillance Report. FXI, SPY, EPIC, CIM, GLD, NWSA, Bullishly Biased Price Friction For Monday, April 4th 2011
April 4, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Monday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Monday there were 2636 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2972 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2477 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. ISHARES FTSE CHINA 25 INDEX (NYSE:FXI), SPDR S&P 500 ETF TRUST (NYSE:SPY), EPICOR SOFTWARE CORP (NASDAQ:EPIC), CHIMERA INVESTMENT CORP (NYSE:CIM), SPDR GOLD TRUST (NYSE:GLD), NEWS CORP-CL A (NASDAQ:NWSA). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction FXI $0.840 1.85% 8,391,248 44.18% 13,614,419 71.68% -5,223,171 Abnormal SPY $0.260 0.20% 48,008,504 47.70% 54,057,151 53.71% -6,048,647 Abnormal EPIC $1.320 11.74% 5,095,469 41.38% 7,117,013 57.80% -2,021,544 Abnormal CIM $0.020 0.51% 19,527,066 44.00% 21,755,877 49.03% -2,228,811 Abnormal GLD $0.680 0.49% 3,493,314 36.13% 6,274,424 64.89% -2,781,110 Abnormal NWSA $0.040 0.22% 5,395,579 36.15% 9,492,304 63.59% -4,096,725 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Monday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows FXI with 5,223,171 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.84000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
