March 31, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 2400 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3029 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2409 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. PROGRESS ENERGY INC (NYSE:PGN), GENERAL ELECTRIC CO (NYSE:GE), EXXON MOBIL CORP (NYSE:XOM), ISHARES MSCI EAFE INDEX FUND (NYSE:EFA), MICROSOFT CORP (NASDAQ:MSFT), EDWARDS LIFESCIENCES CORP (NYSE:EW). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction PGN $-0.180 -0.39% 2,777,235 84.26% 452,252 13.72% 2,324,983 Abnormal GE $-0.040 -0.20% 20,496,211 50.25% 15,785,538 38.70% 4,710,673 Abnormal XOM $-0.290 -0.34% 8,677,888 57.45% 5,030,762 33.30% 3,647,126 Abnormal EFA $-0.280 -0.46% 18,749,604 87.29% 7,864,949 36.62% 10,884,655 Abnormal MSFT $-0.250 -0.98% 34,626,910 50.81% 32,800,456 48.13% 1,826,454 Abnormal EW $-0.720 -0.82% 13,338,921 65.61% 6,711,570 33.01% 6,627,351 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Thursday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows PGN with 2,324,983 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.18000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
