Market Maker Surveillance Report. BAC, RAS, EK, RAI, GSIC, VRGY, Bullishly Biased Price Friction For Monday, March 28th 2011
March 28, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Monday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Monday there were 2594 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2207 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3361 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. BANK OF AMERICA CORP (NYSE:BAC), RAIT FINANCIAL TRUST (NYSE:RAS), EASTMAN KODAK CO (NYSE:EK), REYNOLDS AMERICAN INC (NYSE:RAI), GSI COMMERCE INC (NASDAQ:GSIC), VERIGY LTD (NASDAQ:VRGY). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction BAC $0.030 0.22% 32,963,354 42.24% 37,596,969 48.18% -4,633,615 Abnormal RAS $0.020 0.83% 807,792 19.26% 3,198,582 76.26% -2,390,790 Abnormal EK $0.190 5.59% 29,804,278 43.45% 34,001,113 49.57% -4,196,835 Abnormal RAI $0.330 0.94% 1,260,762 24.05% 3,903,338 74.46% -2,642,576 Abnormal GSIC $9.820 50.67% 18,576,140 43.53% 23,461,767 54.98% -4,885,627 Abnormal VRGY $0.030 0.21% 7,231,975 43.82% 9,573,332 58.00% -2,341,357 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Monday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows BAC with 4,633,615 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.03000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
