March 25, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 2652 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2936 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2129 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. ISHARES FTSE CHINA 25 INDEX (NYSE:FXI), EXXON MOBIL CORP (NYSE:XOM), FIRST AMERICAN FINANCIAL (NYSE:FAF), QWEST COMMUNICATIONS INTL (NYSE:Q), ORACLE CORP (NASDAQ:ORCL), CAREVIEW COMMUNICATIONS INC (OTC:CRVW). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction FXI $0.020 0.05% 3,053,779 37.30% 5,094,210 62.22% -2,040,431 Abnormal XOM $0.850 1.02% 6,345,635 39.13% 8,825,121 54.42% -2,479,486 Abnormal FAF $0.110 0.67% 253,549 6.22% 3,794,409 93.09% -3,540,860 Abnormal Q $0.030 0.44% 6,354,871 39.47% 8,665,571 53.82% -2,310,700 Abnormal ORCL $0.500 1.56% 31,597,007 48.20% 33,572,820 51.21% -1,975,813 Abnormal CRVW $0.250 14.53% 265,606 2.86% 4,876,438 52.44% -4,610,832 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Friday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows FXI with 2,040,431 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.02000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
