Market Maker Surveillance Report. NCT, HAL, JPM, Q, IAU, RF, Bearishly Biased Price Friction For Thursday, March 24th 2011
March 24, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 2484 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3282 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1911 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. NEWCASTLE INVESTMENT CORP (NYSE:NCT), HALLIBURTON CO (NYSE:HAL), JPMORGAN CHASE & CO (NYSE:JPM), QWEST COMMUNICATIONS INTL (NYSE:Q), ISHARES GOLD TRUST (AMEX:IAU), REGIONS FINANCIAL CORP (NYSE:RF). Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction NCT $-0.080 -1.33% 9,611,090 57.51% 7,099,689 42.49% 2,511,401 Abnormal HAL $-0.390 -0.84% 5,725,928 47.74% 4,730,249 39.44% 995,679 Abnormal JPM $-0.060 -0.13% 10,318,045 47.68% 8,636,020 39.91% 1,682,025 Abnormal Q $-0.050 -0.75% 6,032,031 52.53% 4,287,528 37.34% 1,744,503 Abnormal IAU $-0.110 -0.78% 4,365,060 60.71% 2,825,136 39.29% 1,539,924 Abnormal RF $-0.040 -0.56% 4,423,353 50.03% 3,277,319 37.07% 1,146,034 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Thursday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows NCT with 2,511,401 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.08000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
