Market Maker Surveillance Report. VWO, SPY, EWC, RAD, URBN, UNG, Bullishly Biased Price Friction For Wednesday, March 23rd 201
March 23, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Wednesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Wednesday there were 2480 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2816 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2301 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. VANGUARD EMERGING MARKET ETF (NYSE:VWO), SPDR S&P 500 ETF TRUST (NYSE:SPY), ISHARES MSCI CANADA (NYSE:EWC), RITE AID CORP (NYSE:RAD), URBAN OUTFITTERS INC (NASDAQ:URBN), US NATURAL GAS FUND LP (NYSE:UNG). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction VWO $0.610 1.30% 8,335,118 46.69% 9,515,869 53.30% -1,180,751 Abnormal SPY $0.310 0.24% 69,369,795 46.88% 74,395,187 50.28% -5,025,392 Abnormal EWC $0.100 0.30% 1,424,086 39.48% 2,179,097 60.41% -755,011 Abnormal RAD $0.010 0.97% 4,405,638 36.84% 6,228,317 52.09% -1,822,679 Abnormal URBN $0.020 0.05% 3,315,491 31.45% 5,009,854 47.53% -1,694,363 Abnormal UNG $0.210 1.85% 8,620,608 47.27% 9,615,452 52.73% -994,844 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Wednesday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows VWO with 1,180,751 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.61000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
