March 22, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 2540 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2143 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3009 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. ISHARES MSCI MEXICO INVESTAB (NYSE:EWW), ISHARES MSCI BRAZIL (NYSE:EWZ), HEALTH MGMT ASSOCIATES INC-A (NYSE:HMA), YAHOO! INC (NASDAQ:YHOO), DUKE ENERGY CORP (NYSE:DUK), UNITED STATES OIL FUND LP (NYSE:USO). Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction EWW $0.350 0.59% 1,221,229 29.91% 2,835,607 69.44% -1,614,378 Abnormal EWZ $1.120 1.52% 5,270,371 43.98% 6,645,604 55.46% -1,375,233 Abnormal HMA $0.010 0.07% 1,712,190 33.82% 3,092,054 61.08% -1,379,864 Abnormal YHOO $0.070 0.44% 13,669,272 44.60% 16,871,362 55.05% -3,202,090 Abnormal DUK $0.090 0.51% 2,825,660 37.27% 4,195,234 55.34% -1,369,574 Abnormal USO $0.800 1.95% 7,683,632 45.93% 9,046,720 54.07% -1,363,088 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Tuesday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows EWW with 1,614,378 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.35000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
