Market Maker Surveillance Report. IWM, C, UCBI, EWC, INTC, PPL, Bullishly Biased Price Friction For Thursday, March 17th 2011
March 17, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 2796 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3117 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1886 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. ISHARES RUSSELL 2000 (NYSE:IWM), CITIGROUP INC (NYSE:C), UNITED COMMUNITY BANKS/GA (NASDAQ:UCBI), ISHARES MSCI CANADA (NYSE:EWC), INTEL CORP (NASDAQ:INTC), PPL CORPORATION (NYSE:PPL). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction IWM $0.200 0.26% 27,193,909 42.88% 35,209,505 55.52% -8,015,596 Abnormal C $0.060 1.37% 180,706,379 48.07% 184,934,956 49.19% -4,228,577 Abnormal UCBI $0.440 28.76% 4,850,451 40.60% 7,096,898 59.40% -2,246,447 Abnormal EWC $0.680 2.15% 2,273,589 33.55% 4,502,754 66.45% -2,229,165 Abnormal INTC $0.100 0.52% 27,090,182 45.63% 32,312,879 54.42% -5,222,697 Abnormal PPL $0.070 0.29% 2,694,992 32.19% 5,064,729 60.49% -2,369,737 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Thursday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows IWM with 8,015,596 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.20000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
