Market Maker Surveillance Report. MLNK, ORCC, MXC, THQI, GVP, TBSI, Losing Stocks With Lowest Price Friction For Tuesday, Marc
March 15, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 2973 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1339 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3753 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Tuesday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. MODUSLINK GLOBAL SOLUTIONS I (NASDAQ:MLNK), ONLINE RESOURCES CORP (NASDAQ:ORCC), MEXCO ENERGY CORP (AMEX:MXC), THQ INC (NASDAQ:THQI), GSE SYSTEMS INC (AMEX:GVP), TBS INTERNATIONAL PLC-A (NASDAQ:TBSI). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction MLNK $-1.030 -15.70% 181,103 40.53% 265,554 59.43% -84,451 -820 ORCC $-1.240 -19.87% 316,493 43.07% 418,118 56.90% -101,625 -820 MXC $-1.800 -15.09% 31,192 40.25% 38,431 49.59% -7,239 -40 THQI $-0.960 -16.11% 3,466,416 47.88% 3,714,127 51.30% -247,711 -2,580 GVP $-0.480 -19.96% 660,672 40.75% 954,781 58.89% -294,109 -6,127 TBSI $-0.600 -18.93% 136,849 42.98% 179,545 56.39% -42,696 -712Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows MLNK with a dollar loss Tuesday of $-1.03000 and a Friction Factor of -820 shares. That means that it only took 820 more shares of selling than buying to move MLNK lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
