March 15, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 2973 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1339 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3753 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. ISHARES BARCLAYS 7-10 YEAR (NYSE:IEF), VICAL INC (NASDAQ:VICL), WELLS FARGO & CO (NYSE:WFC), BROADWIND ENERGY INC (NASDAQ:BWEN), DIREXION DAILY FINL BEAR 3X (NYSE:FAZ), IPATH S&P 500 VIX S/T FU ETN (NYSE:VXX). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     IEF $0.360 0.38% 486,150 29.44% 1,165,288 70.56% -679,138 Abnormal
     VICL $0.020 0.84% 287,141 17.43% 1,360,325 82.57% -1,073,184 Abnormal
     WFC $0.200 0.62% 17,409,323 41.44% 18,902,482 45.00% -1,493,159 Abnormal
     BWEN $0.230 18.04% 3,125,366 43.92% 3,988,798 56.05% -863,432 Abnormal
     FAZ $1.640 3.97% 8,070,417 45.84% 9,487,960 53.89% -1,417,543 Abnormal
     VXX $1.810 5.43% 20,460,692 49.04% 21,385,522 51.26% -924,830 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Tuesday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows IEF with 679,138 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.36000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
