March 11, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 2668 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2592 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2324 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. SEMICONDUCTOR HOLDRS TRUST (NYSE:SMH), BANCO BRADESCO-ADR (NYSE:BBD), WALGREEN CO (NYSE:WAG), NETAPP INC (NASDAQ:NTAP), AMARIN CORPORATION PLC -ADR (NASDAQ:AMRN), VERIZON COMMUNICATIONS INC (NYSE:VZ). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     SMH $-0.010 -0.03% 9,068,100 51.21% 7,940,200 44.84% 1,127,900 Abnormal
     BBD $-0.140 -0.75% 6,442,619 50.36% 5,342,026 41.76% 1,100,593 Abnormal
     WAG $-0.160 -0.39% 3,040,166 51.43% 2,218,989 37.54% 821,177 Abnormal
     NTAP $-0.910 -1.88% 5,469,714 51.72% 4,731,224 44.74% 738,490 Abnormal
     AMRN $-0.150 -2.00% 5,836,944 79.63% 1,309,993 17.87% 4,526,951 Abnormal
     VZ $-0.640 -1.76% 8,081,793 48.25% 7,255,773 43.31% 826,020 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Friday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows SMH with 1,127,900 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.01000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
