Market Maker Surveillance Report. IWM, SPY, LOW, RCRC, KEY, MSFT, Bullishly Biased Price Friction For Friday, March 11th 2011
March 11, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 2668 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2592 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2324 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. ISHARES RUSSELL 2000 (NYSE:IWM), SPDR S&P 500 ETF TRUST (NYSE:SPY), LOWE'S COS INC (NYSE:LOW), RC2 CORP (NASDAQ:RCRC), KEYCORP (NYSE:KEY), MICROSOFT CORP (NASDAQ:MSFT). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction IWM $0.260 0.33% 34,810,857 46.49% 38,615,583 51.57% -3,804,726 Abnormal SPY $1.070 0.83% 95,115,051 46.53% 98,990,970 48.42% -3,875,919 Abnormal LOW $0.300 1.14% 5,846,955 39.13% 7,452,980 49.88% -1,606,025 Abnormal RCRC $2.810 11.01% 5,911,292 39.42% 9,162,698 61.10% -3,251,406 Abnormal KEY $0.050 0.56% 5,968,928 39.15% 7,338,363 48.13% -1,369,435 Abnormal MSFT $0.190 0.73% 24,563,794 47.91% 26,437,197 51.56% -1,873,403 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Friday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows IWM with 3,804,726 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.26000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
