March 7, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Monday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Monday there were 2381 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1404 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3970 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Monday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. FX ENERGY INC (NASDAQ:FXEN), EMISPHERE TECHNOLOGIES INC (NASDAQ:EMIS), URBAN OUTFITTERS INC (NASDAQ:URBN), REPLIGEN CORP (NASDAQ:RGEN), GREYSTAR RESOURCES LTD (OTC:GYSLF), GUIDED THERAPEUTICS INC (OTC:GTHP). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction FXEN $-1.370 -12.18% 617,800 41.12% 871,924 58.03% -254,124 -1,855 EMIS $-0.170 -10.97% 40,305 27.16% 108,096 72.84% -67,791 -3,988 URBN $-4.420 -11.48% 2,447,974 43.55% 2,910,840 51.78% -462,866 -1,047 RGEN $-1.360 -27.70% 693,833 48.57% 726,834 50.88% -33,001 -243 GYSLF $-0.397 -11.93% 31,711 22.73% 65,641 47.06% -33,930 -855 GTHP $-0.330 -24.81% 340,309 36.56% 578,437 62.15% -238,128 -7,216Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows FXEN with a dollar loss Monday of $-1.37000 and a Friction Factor of -1,855 shares. That means that it only took 1,855 more shares of selling than buying to move FXEN lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
