March 4, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 2588 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2003 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3169 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. HEALTH CARE SELECT SECTOR (NYSE:XLV), CONOCOPHILLIPS (NYSE:COP), VARIAN SEMICONDUCTOR EQUIP (NASDAQ:VSEA), SPDR GOLD TRUST (NYSE:GLD), UNITED STATES OIL FUND LP (NYSE:USO), TYCO ELECTRONICS LTD (NYSE:TEL). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     XLV $0.070 0.21% 3,399,864 38.60% 5,254,327 59.65% -1,854,463 Abnormal
     COP $0.480 0.60% 3,632,398 39.57% 4,482,553 48.83% -850,155 Abnormal
     VSEA $0.010 0.01% 2,254,529 22.52% 10,924,761 109.12% -8,670,232 Abnormal
     GLD $1.580 1.14% 6,984,127 40.02% 9,278,517 53.16% -2,294,390 Abnormal
     USO $1.280 3.11% 13,840,028 49.94% 14,737,220 53.18% -897,192 Abnormal
     TEL $0.020 0.06% 1,283,883 36.37% 2,253,079 63.82% -969,196 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Friday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows XLV with 1,854,463 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.07000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
