March 4, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 2588 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2003 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3169 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Friday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. CERUS CORP (NASDAQ:CERS), KENDLE INTERNATIONAL INC (NASDAQ:KNDL), ACCELR8 TECHNOLOGY CORP (AMEX:AXK), BSQUARE CORP (NASDAQ:BSQR), GABELLI HEALTHCARE&WELLNESS (NYSE:GRX), VERSO PAPER CORP (NYSE:VRS). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     CERS $-0.450 -13.39% 1,280,813 46.41% 1,477,330 53.53% -196,517 -4,367
     KNDL $-1.220 -11.86% 234,914 41.31% 328,313 57.73% -93,399 -766
     AXK $-0.550 -11.16% 168,810 39.61% 243,725 57.19% -74,915 -1,362
     BSQR $-2.650 -22.61% 521,617 44.74% 607,431 52.10% -85,814 -324
     GRX $-0.780 -9.54% 65,770 29.20% 145,736 64.70% -79,966 -1,025
     VRS $-0.500 -8.79% 162,357 47.13% 173,007 50.22% -10,650 -213
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows CERS with a dollar loss Friday of $-0.45000 and a Friction Factor of -4,367 shares. That means that it only took 4,367 more shares of selling than buying to move CERS lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
