Market Maker Surveillance Report. NEM, ALKS, BPOP, AUY, AMLN, NYX, Bearishly Biased Price Friction For Thursday, March 3rd 201
March 3, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 2346 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3974 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1545 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. NEWMONT MINING CORP (NYSE:NEM), ALKERMES INC (NASDAQ:ALKS), POPULAR INC (NASDAQ:BPOP), YAMANA GOLD INC (NYSE:AUY), AMYLIN PHARMACEUTICALS INC (NASDAQ:AMLN), NYSE EURONEXT (NYSE:NYX). NEM $-1.380 -2.52% 6,359,923 48.15% 5,379,748 40.73% 980,175 Abnormal

AUY $-0.080 -0.62% 5,301,508 49.32% 4,148,257 38.59% 1,153,251 Abnormal
AMLN $-3.790 -25.25% 12,114,091 53.14% 10,428,500 45.75% 1,685,591 Abnormal
NYX $-0.110 -0.30% 3,074,244 70.74% 956,391 22.01% 2,117,853 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Thursday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows NEM with 980,175 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-1.38000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
