February 24, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 2754 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2581 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2478 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Thursday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. ALANCO TECHNOLOGIES INC (NASDAQ:ALAN), NEW CONCEPT ENERGY INC (AMEX:GBR), SUPREME INDS INC-CLASS A (AMEX:STS), SALIX PHARMACEUTICALS LTD (NASDAQ:SLXP), GOLDEN STAR RESOURCES LTD (AMEX:GSS), NUTRISYSTEM INC (NASDAQ:NTRI). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction ALAN $-0.170 -14.17% 50,255 43.41% 65,212 56.33% -14,957 -880 GBR $-1.190 -19.48% 82,126 40.37% 96,359 47.36% -14,233 -120 STS $-0.590 -18.73% 44,523 31.09% 58,073 40.56% -13,550 -230 SLXP $-9.820 -23.69% 6,540,813 45.91% 6,798,057 47.72% -257,244 -262 GSS $-0.570 -14.54% 4,605,903 38.71% 6,139,979 51.60% -1,534,076 -26,914 NTRI $-5.750 -28.89% 448,609 46.86% 498,997 52.12% -50,388 -88Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows ALAN with a dollar loss Thursday of $-0.17000 and a Friction Factor of -880 shares. That means that it only took 880 more shares of selling than buying to move ALAN lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
