February 17, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 2663 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3182 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2100 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage gain per share Thursday and low price friction (bullish). This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices rose faster with less Friction. TIMBERLAND CO-CLASS A (NYSE:TBL), 3D SYSTEMS CORP (NASDAQ:TDSC), ADVANCED PHOTONIX INC-CL A (AMEX:API), HARDINGE INC (NASDAQ:HDNG), PRANA BIOTECHNOLOGY LTD-ADR (NASDAQ:PRAN), INTERPHASE CORP (NASDAQ:INPH). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     TBL $9.070 30.75% 2,218,901 46.87% 1,916,616 40.49% 302,285 333
     TDSC $14.210 40.43% 512,050 52.60% 444,408 45.65% 67,642 48
     API $0.500 23.47% 1,346,944 61.08% 750,508 34.03% 596,436 11,929
     HDNG $2.410 26.41% 212,342 55.91% 165,947 43.69% 46,395 193
     PRAN $0.410 30.82% 1,683,659 50.59% 1,638,597 49.24% 45,062 1,099
     INPH $1.600 36.30% 1,671,504 55.96% 1,296,838 43.42% 374,666 2,342

Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net buy volumes (buy volume, sell volume) and low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows INPH with a dollar gain Thursday of $1.60000 and a Friction Factor of 2,342 shares. That means that it only took 2,342 more shares of buying than selling to move INPH higher by one penny. The Market Makers are currently allowing the stock to rise quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and positive market direction can drive prices higher much faster than normal.
