February 17, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 2663 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3182 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2100 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. LEVEL 3 COMMUNICATIONS INC (NASDAQ:LVLT), UTILITIES SELECT SECTOR SPDR (NYSE:XLU), HEALTH CARE SELECT SECTOR (NYSE:XLV), TECHNOLOGY SELECT SECT SPDR (NYSE:XLK), SPDR S&P 500 ETF TRUST (NYSE:SPY), QUESTCOR PHARMACEUTICALS (NASDAQ:QCOR). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     LVLT $0.010 0.74% 15,215,532 45.51% 18,164,331 54.33% -2,948,799 Abnormal
     XLU $0.050 0.16% 2,780,765 34.05% 5,434,551 66.54% -2,653,786 Abnormal
     XLV $0.130 0.41% 2,950,668 34.18% 5,858,074 67.86% -2,907,406 Abnormal
     XLK $0.010 0.06% 2,755,686 41.50% 5,067,058 76.30% -2,311,372 Abnormal
     SPY $0.380 0.28% 50,892,397 46.99% 59,042,113 54.52% -8,149,716 Abnormal
     QCOR $0.080 0.56% 1,949,974 23.43% 6,336,800 76.13% -4,386,826 Abnormal

Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Thursday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows QCOR with 4,386,826 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.08000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
