February 16, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Wednesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Wednesday there were 2525 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3552 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1887 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage gain per share Wednesday and low price friction (bullish). This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices rose faster with less Friction. SYNERON MEDICAL LTD (NASDAQ:ELOS), ONSTREAM MEDIA CORP (NASDAQ:ONSM), THRESHOLD PHARMACEUTICALS (NASDAQ:THLD), PALATIN TECHNOLOGIES INC (AMEX:PTN), CYANOTECH CORP (NASDAQ:CYAN), LA-Z-BOY INC (NYSE:LZB). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction ELOS $2.420 20.72% 1,033,495 55.42% 821,230 44.04% 212,265 877 ONSM $0.280 25.93% 308,418 50.96% 294,407 48.64% 14,011 500 THLD $1.000 57.14% 4,289,022 52.25% 3,797,013 46.26% 492,009 4,920 PTN $0.150 14.71% 126,874 66.13% 64,982 33.87% 61,892 4,126 CYAN $1.030 39.31% 486,095 49.92% 484,234 49.72% 1,861 18 LZB $2.380 28.74% 2,792,009 48.77% 2,496,587 43.61% 295,422 1,241
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net buy volumes (buy volume, sell volume) and low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows LZB with a dollar gain Wednesday of $2.38000 and a Friction Factor of 1,241 shares. That means that it only took 1,241 more shares of buying than selling to move LZB higher by one penny. The Market Makers are currently allowing the stock to rise quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and positive market direction can drive prices higher much faster than normal.
