February 11, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 2503 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3496 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1784 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the highest net sell volume on Friday and lowest negative price Friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. FAR EAST ENERGY CORP (OTCBB:FEEC), NOKIA CORP-SPON ADR (NYSE:NOK), NEW DRAGON ASIA CORP (AMEX:NWD), CISCO SYSTEMS INC (NASDAQ:CSCO), PROSHARES QQQ ULTRASHORT (NYSE:QID), DIREXION DAILY FINL BEAR 3X (NYSE:FAZ). Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction FEEC $-0.015 -2.56% 545,850 10.55% 4,602,125 88.96% -4,056,275 -2,704,183 NOK $-1.510 -13.88% 89,891,032 44.40% 98,960,890 48.87% -9,069,858 -60,065 NWD $-0.010 -16.67% 2,505,039 31.91% 5,373,273 68.46% -2,868,234 -2,868,234 CSCO $-0.190 -1.00% 93,982,844 49.41% 98,325,519 51.69% -4,342,675 -228,562 QID $-0.150 -1.48% 5,847,002 39.13% 9,139,996 61.17% -3,292,994 -219,533 FAZ $-0.320 -4.08% 12,460,189 43.13% 16,429,581 56.87% -3,969,392 -124,044
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have low price friction combined with more selling than buying (negative Net Volume) in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows FAZ down $-0.32000 with a Friction Factor of -124,044 and a Net Volume of -3,969,392. That means that it takes 124,044 more shares of selling than buying to drop FAZ by one penny. On Monday the Market Makers allowed the stock to move down on heavier selling than buying (low negative friction).
