February 10, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 2548 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2475 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2612 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage gain per share Thursday and low price friction (bullish). This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices rose faster with less Friction. ORTHOVITA INC (NASDAQ:VITA), MAD CATZ INTERACTIVE INC (AMEX:MCZ), SUPERCONDUCTOR TECHNOLOGIES (NASDAQ:SCON), GATEWAY INDUSTRIES INC (OTC:GWAY), IPG PHOTONICS CORP (NASDAQ:IPGP), ECHO THERAPEUTICS INC (OTCBB:ECTE). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     VITA $0.510 23.94% 123,601 56.81% 93,959 43.19% 29,642 581
     MCZ $0.240 19.83% 4,904,726 46.09% 4,340,300 40.78% 564,426 23,518
     SCON $0.630 23.86% 2,589,396 59.44% 1,763,488 40.48% 825,908 13,110
     GWAY $1.630 56.79% 275,830 17.15% 272,988 16.97% 2,842 17
     IPGP $12.750 36.69% 1,196,046 50.62% 1,130,975 47.87% 65,071 51
     ECTE $1.310 38.64% 789,170 57.15% 578,310 41.88% 210,860 1,610

Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net buy volumes (buy volume, sell volume) and low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows ECTE with a dollar gain Thursday of $1.31000 and a Friction Factor of 1,610 shares. That means that it only took 1,610 more shares of buying than selling to move ECTE higher by one penny. The Market Makers are currently allowing the stock to rise quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and positive market direction can drive prices higher much faster than normal.
