February 9, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Wednesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Wednesday there were 2551 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1978 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3299 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Wednesday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. SIERRA WIRELESS INC (NASDAQ:SWIR), SMITH MICRO SOFTWARE INC (NASDAQ:SMSI), COMPUTER SCIENCES CORP (NYSE:CSC), NOVATEL WIRELESS INC (NASDAQ:NVTL), NORTHERN DYNASTY MINERALS (AMEX:NAK), MARINA CAPITAL INC (NASDAQ:MRNA). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     SWIR $-3.960 -25.55% 2,625,208 44.63% 3,155,699 53.65% -530,491 -1,340
     SMSI $-4.560 -34.92% 5,858,527 48.94% 6,062,127 50.64% -203,600 -446
     CSC $-7.710 -13.64% 5,479,947 44.00% 5,661,023 45.46% -181,076 -235
     NVTL $-1.080 -14.61% 1,364,605 48.89% 1,417,761 50.79% -53,156 -492
     NAK $-2.960 -14.37% 1,137,593 37.63% 1,539,785 50.94% -402,192 -1,359
     MRNA $-0.160 -13.84% 148,374 34.89% 276,839 65.11% -128,465 -8,029

Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows MRNA with a dollar loss Wednesday of $-0.16000 and a Friction Factor of -8,029 shares. That means that it only took 8,029 more shares of selling than buying to move MRNA lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
