February 8, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 2568 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3092 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2188 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. ISHARES FTSE/XINHUA CHINA 25 (NYSE:FXI), PFIZER INC (NYSE:PFE), FIFTH THIRD BANCORP (NASDAQ:FITB), SOUTHWEST AIRLINES CO (NYSE:LUV), WILMINGTON TRUST CORP (NYSE:WL), FRONTIER COMMUNICATIONS CORP (NYSE:FTR). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     FXI $0.180 0.42% 5,745,306 45.97% 6,968,415 55.75% -1,223,109 Abnormal
     PFE $0.120 0.63% 10,086,284 40.29% 12,287,990 49.08% -2,201,706 Abnormal
     FITB $0.020 0.13% 4,850,928 41.85% 6,559,131 56.59% -1,708,203 Abnormal
     LUV $0.240 2.00% 4,143,980 37.54% 5,845,837 52.96% -1,701,857 Abnormal
     WL $0.030 0.68% 447,615 16.05% 2,255,811 80.90% -1,808,196 Abnormal
     FTR $0.020 0.26% 3,201,551 36.40% 4,685,655 53.28% -1,484,104 Abnormal

Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Tuesday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows FTR with 1,484,104 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.02000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
